'Task' Episode 6 Ending Explained: Robbie's Fate, The Money, and Tom Pelphrey's Insights (2025)

Spoiler Alert: Get ready to dive deep into the shocking twists and turns of Task Episode 6! This episode left fans reeling, with beloved characters facing their demise. But amidst the chaos, a glimmer of hope emerges. Could Robbie Prendergrast have actually won? Let's break it down.

In Episode 6, titled "Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a river," the action explodes with violence. Characters are shot, stabbed, and run down, creating a high-stakes showdown. But the episode concludes on a surprisingly optimistic note. The episode starts with Robbie and Tom Brandis battling the likes of Jayson, Perry, and the rest of the Dark Hearts. During the chaos, Robbie tosses a bag of drug money into a river, sparking a brutal fight with Jayson. Though Robbie appears to be winning, he is ultimately stabbed and killed. Tom rushes to Robbie's side, but the Robin Hood of Delco County dies in the backseat of a car.

But here's where it gets controversial... The money wasn't in the bag! It was on its way to Maeve. So, what's the deal? How early did Robbie plan this elaborate scheme? The episode's ending is a masterstroke, leaving viewers pondering Robbie's motives and the true nature of his plan.

Robbie intentionally lured the Dark Hearts to the cabin as a distraction, ensuring the money reached Maeve and the kids. He collaborated with Shelley, who divided the drug money into two bags: one for herself and her children, and the other for Maeve, as per Robbie's instructions. Jayson and Perry are left realizing they've been tricked, while Maeve ends up with the money. The episode culminates with a final shot of Robbie swimming in the quarry. Robbie's plan only works if he can convince everyone that he's doing the opposite. Tom Pelphrey, who plays Robbie, revealed that the character's plan began to take shape when he realized his control was slipping. He may have needed a Plan B to protect the kids.

Director Salli Richardson-Whitfield and showrunner Brad Ingelsby crafted the episode to make the audience connect with Robbie and feel the heartbreak of his sacrifice. Brad Ingelsby added the final shot of the episode to provide a moment of completion. Tom Pelphrey emphasized that the final shot was added in post-production to add a bittersweet touch.

With one episode remaining, the Dark Hearts are still after their money, and Brandis knows about Grasso's betrayal.
