Daly believes that McLaren's decision to let Dunne go was a massive error. "Alex Dunne has an incredible amount of faith in his driving abilities, and he's ready to take on any challenge that comes his way," Daly explained. "Red Bull needs to be cautious and ensure they don't repeat past mistakes by constantly shuffling drivers. They've recognized that Dunne fits the mold of a fast, aggressive Red Bull driver, and now he's available. I think it was a huge mistake by McLaren to let him go, and Red Bull will likely try to snap him up. It's the perfect scenario for Alex, but McLaren's decision-making process is baffling."
Marko himself seemed to agree with Daly's assessment, stating that Dunne is "very much like a Red Bull driver." He confirmed that Red Bull is now in discussions with Dunne since he's free from his McLaren contract. However, no deal has been finalized yet, and Dunne still needs to secure the necessary super license points to race in Formula 1. He currently sits in fifth place in the Formula 2 championship, 31 points behind third place with two rounds left.
