Hellraiser (2022) 4K UHD Blu-ray Review - Turbine Media Release! (2025)

The highly anticipated 'Hellraiser' reboot is finally getting a 4K UHD release, but there's a catch! It's only available from Germany's Turbine Media, leaving US fans in a dilemma. With Hulu/Disney holding the rights, a physical media release in the US seems unlikely.

But here's some good news for collectors: the 2022 film will grace shelves on December 11, boasting a stunning 4K presentation with Dolby Vision HDR and immersive Dolby Atmos audio. And the best part? It's region-free, so fans worldwide can enjoy this horror masterpiece!

Turbine Media offers a tempting selection: a limited edition Steelbook or four unique Mediabooks, each with a linen-like finish and a 56-page German booklet by Tobias Hohmann. The three-disc sets are priced at €34.99 ($41) each, or you can grab all five for €155.71 ($81).

The release includes exciting special features, such as audio commentaries by director David Bruckner and make-up FX artists Sierra Spencer and Josh Russell. There's also an interview with Bruckner and screenwriters Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski, who discuss reimagining the iconic horror franchise. And for fans of practical effects, there's an in-depth look at creating the Cenobites.

The film follows art dealer Roland Voight, who unwittingly opens a portal to a hellish dimension with an ancient puzzle cube. Years later, ex-addict Riley's curiosity leads her to steal the cube, unknowingly summoning the Cenobite leader. As her brother becomes entangled with a horde of demons, Riley and her friends find themselves on a dark path leading to Voight's estate, where a gruesome fate awaits.

David Bruckner, known for his work on 'The Ritual' and 'V/H/S', helms this reboot, staying true to Clive Barker's original vision. The cast includes Odessa A'zion, Adam Faison, Drew Starkey, Brandon Flynn, Aoife Hinds, and Jamie Clayton as the iconic Pinhead.

Bloody Disgusting's Meagan Navarro praised the film, highlighting its stylish approach and intriguing world-building. But will this 'Hellraiser' satisfy long-time fans? And what does the future hold for the franchise?

And now, the moment you've been waiting for—the artwork! Sascha Meurer's Steelbook design is a sight to behold. Timo Wuerz's Mediabook A artwork is equally captivating. Mediabook B features the US key art, while Garry Marta and Dark Design lend their talents to Mediabooks C and D, respectively.

But here's where it gets controversial: With the original 'Hellraiser' being a cult classic, some fans might argue that a reboot is unnecessary. Is this a respectful homage or a cash grab?
